Long ban for young drink-driver

A 40-month driving ban has been imposed on a 21-year-old motorist caught at the wheel when double the alcohol limit.

Ryan Whittle, of Henry Street, Tyldesley, was tested by police who stopped his Audi TT on Atherton Road, Hindley, on August the 10 and he gave a reading of 75 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath (the limit is 35). There is also £620 to pay in court costs, a victim services surcharge and fine. He can reduce his ban to 40 weeks if he takes a government-sanctioned course for drink-drivers.
