Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after woman attacked in Wigan

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was assaulted.

Police were called to Scot Lane, Beech Hill Wigan, this afternoon (March 13), where they discovered the victim with serious injuries.

The 45-year-old was taken to hospital.

Officers arrested a 54-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder and he remains in custody for questioning.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing several police vehicles and an ambulance in the car park off Scot Lane near the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 2.05pm, police were called to reports that a woman had been assaulted on Scot Lane in Wigan.

"Officers attended and an 45-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

"A 54-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody for questioning.
