Man arrested on suspicion of murder after death of woman in Wigan

Emergency services were called to a house on Birch Grove, Ashton, just before 2.15am on Tuesday, where a 33-year-old woman was pronounced dead.

She has been formally identified and her next of kin has been informed.

A 31-year-old man from Ashton has been arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to a police station to be interviewed.

House-to-house inquiries have been carried out and an investigation into the circumstances of the woman’s death are ongoing.

There was a large police presence on Birch Grove throughout Tuesday.

Det Insp Leanne Toole said: "A woman has sadly died overnight and we are appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or heard something in the early hours of this morning or last night to get in touch with police.”
