Police have tonight charged a man with the murder of Billy Livesley.
Peter Connor, 31, of Dorothy Walk, Abram, has been charged with the murder of 21-year-old Billy, from Platt Bridge after the fatal attack.
He has been remanded in custody and will appear at Wigan Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "The charges are in relation to an incident which took place outside a house on Bickershaw Lane on Friday 28 December 2018. Billy suffered serious injuries as a result of the assault and was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
"He sadly died the following evening and a Home Office Post Mortem confirmed that the cause of death was a significant head injury."
Two events are being held this weekend to honour Billy and raise money to help pay for his funeral.
Abram FC and Hindley Town will play a fund-raising match at 2.15pm on Saturday at Kingsdown Road playing fields in Abram. Entry costs £2.
Billy’s 22nd birthday on Sunday will be marked with a rugby match and balloon release at Ince Rose Bridge Rugby Club, starting at noon.
