Man had £800 worth of cannabis in his car

A Wigan motorist stopped by police was found to have £800 worth of cannabis in his vehicle, a court heard.

When the officer spoke to Jason Fitzpatrick he could smell cannabis and asked him to hand it over. He reached behind his seat and handed over a small bag, said Henry Riding, prosecuting.

But the suspicious constable asked him to hand over the rest or have the car searched and Fitzpatrick replied, “I’m in the s***” and produced a carrier bag containing individual wraps.

The 27 wraps found had a potential total street value of £800 and weighed just over 40g. The 44-year-old defendant was placed under an electronically monitored curfew for three months between 9pm and 6am and ordered to carry out 150 hours’ unpaid work.

He was also made the subject of a 12-month community order.

Fitzpatrick, of Withington Lane, Aspull, pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis with intent to supply on September 8 last year.
