A MAN who battered his ex-girlfriend before attacking her 18-month-old child is today behind bars.
Lee Shaw, of Milton Close, Atherton, pleaded guilty during a hearing at Wigan Magistrates’ Court to assaulting Ann-Marie Richards and her young daughter at their home.
Shaw, 25, had been in a relationship with Ms Richards for one month before they split up after he accused her of cheating.
The couple had been rowing at Ms Richards’ home in Coronation Drive, Higher Fold, Leigh, when Shaw was told he would have to sleep on the sofa. She was asleep in bed with her daughter when Shaw entered the bedroom at 1.30am.
Mike Ardern, prosecuting, told the court Shaw began punching Ms Richards while the youngster lay next to her.
He then stormed out of the house but returned later and demanded Ms Richards to open the window.
When she refused, the defendant went into the back garden and threw a brick through a window. The court heard that one of the youngsters was left with a cut to her forehead which had been caused by the shattered glass.
Ms Richards took her children out of the house before contacting police.
Shaw, who had 24 previous convictions for 40 offences, admitted two assault charges as well as criminal damage and breaching a community order.
Colin Rawson, defending, said: “Lee Shaw does not handle pressure well and the offences are linked to problems with jealousy.”
Magistrates jailed him for six months and issued a restraining order.
