The British Transport Police (BTP) thanked residents for their reaction to photographs of five youngsters officers want to speak to as they may have information about an incident on a Northern service between Appley Bridge and Wigan Wallgate.

And the authorities investigating say they could now be closer to bringing those responsible to justice, with new lines of enquiry being explored after a number of people got in touch with the BTP.

The incident happened after a group of youths were asked to be careful after knocking into a pram on a train in May.

The incident escalated shockingly, with the father having a bottle thrown at him and then being booted in the side after he had fallen.

Disgustingly, saliva was also aimed at the mum’s face by the gang.

No arrests have been made at this stage.
