A new date has been set for sentencing of a lorry driver who killed a military hero and seriously injured his wife in a horror road smash in Leigh.

Florin Solomon, 28, had been due to learn his fate from a Bolton judge earlier this month after admitting he caused Mark Byrne’s death by dangerous driving when his truck ploughed into a car on the East Lancs Road’s junction with Atherleigh Way on January 21.

The trucker, of Landsdowne Road, Worcester, had gone through a traffic light on red. He has also admitted to causing Julie Byrne serious injury by dangerous driving in the same crash.

The hearing was delayed by the coronavirus lockdown but he is now due to be sentenced on May 18.
