Police launch probe after thugs attack man in street

Police have launched an investigation after a man was attacked in Standish town centre by a pair of thugs.

The incident occurred shortly after 6.30pm on Tuesday, September 1 in Market Street, Standish, at the junction with Preston Road and High Street.

The victim, a man in his 50s, was leaving work and getting on his bike when he was approached by two men. They kicked him off his bike before launching a flurry of punches and kicks while he was on the ground.

The pair then fled in the direction of Pole Street, just around the corner.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "Just after 6.30pm on Tuesday (1 September 2020), officers were called to a report of an assault on Market Street in Standish.

"A man in his 50s was assaulted by two men who made off towards the Co-op."

"The man was taken to hospital and enquiries are on-going.

"Anyone who may have seen anything or anyone with information is asked to report it online at gmp.police.uk quoting incident number 2373 of 01/09/2020.

"Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
