The victim had been on a night out with friends when he was approached in the street and assaulted by a man described as being approximately 5ft 5in – 10in tall with blonde hair and a skinny face.

It is believed that the attacker, who fled the scene immediately, was around 19-years-old.

Detective Constable Chris Waddicar of GMP’s Wigan borough said: “This unprovoked attack knocked the victim out cold and left him requiring hospital training for serious facial injuries.

“We have released this shocking CCTV footage in the hope that it can jog the memory of somebody who was present at the time of the assault.

“Nobody should have to worry about potentially being targeted on a night out and the person responsible for this particular incident needs to be found and face the consequences of his actions.

“I would ask that anybody with information that they believe could help us to please contact police immediately.”
