Police targeting drug crime in Wigan make 130 arrests and seize more than £15,000 from gangs

Officers from Scholes neighbourhood policing team have been working to target the problems, using information provided by people living in the area.

It has led to them executing warrants, making hundreds of arrests and seizing thousands of pounds.

But their work goes on as they continue to tackle the problem of drug dealing in Scholes.

A letter to residents said: "Over the last few months you will have noticed increased police activity targeting drug dealing and associated crime in the Scholes area.

"As a result of information provided by local residents, we have carried out six warrants that led to multiple arrests for supplying controlled drugs. In addition the team has made over 130 arrests for various offences, many drug-related, and in addition the seizure of around £15,000 in proceeds of crime taken away from criminal gangs.

"We are now working to develop the evidence that will help to convict those responsible for drug crime in your area as well as further intelligence about others and will keep you informed.

"The information provided by local people was central to the success of these arrests and we would like to thank everyone who contributed and reassure that we will continue to work to make the area a safer place."
