TWO thugs threatened to smash a bottle into a young Wigan man’s face after bursting into his home before punching him in the face and then stealing his car.
At about 12.15pm on Sunday (March 20), police say the 23-year-old victim was in the living room of his home on Pinewood Crescent, Ince, when two men entered the house uninvited.
One of the offenders picked up an empty bottle and threatened the victim and his friend.
The householder was then punched in the face before having his mobile phone and car keys pinched.
After leaving the house, one of the offenders then drove off in the victim’s black Ford Focus car, which was parked outside.
Officers say they now want to speak to a man on a mountain bike who was spotted near the scene as he could hold vital clues about the car thief.
The offender who stole the car is described as white, in his mid 20s, with shaved hair. He spoke with a Wigan accent and is about 5ft 7ins tall.
Detective Constable John O’Donnell, of Wigan’s Volume Crime Team, today appealed for information about the incident.
He said: “We clearly need to catch this man and I believe one witness in particular could help us do that.
“I really want to hear from the man on the mountain bike who was in the area at the time.
“We believe that he stopped near the scene for a couple of minutes so it is possible that he would be able to help us identify the driver.
“If you are that cyclist, or if you saw what happened, please call the Wigan Volume Crime Team on 0161 856 5308 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.”
l A 21-year-old man from Higher Ince has been charged with robbery in connection with the incident.
He is set to appear before Wigan Magistrates’ Court for a preliminary hearing.
