Rogue driver "aimed for" party-goers on busy Wigan street
Revelers on a busy Wigan street were "targeted" by a rogue driver during the Boxing Day festivities.
On Thursday December 27, at around 2am, police were called to reports of a disturbance on Wigan Road in Ashton-in-Makerfield.
Eye witnesses reported seeing a red Audi driving at pedestrians near the busy Plantation Bar & Grill.
The incident happened on a packed street as party-goers were out in full force for Boxing Day.
The section of the road where the incident occurred is also located near the intersection with Gerard Street, which is lined with pubs and bars.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said that officers were called to a disturbance and reports of dangerous driving but that the offender(s) had "made off" when they arrived.
One witness told Wigan Today: "It was horrific.
"People were screaming, shouting and crying.
"A red brand new Audi was speeding up and down Wigan Road just running people down.
"Then it stopped in middle of road doing donuts still trying get people.
"I saw the bouncers of the club trying get people inside and there was a lad who was stood behind a guardrail and the car went right for him..it hit the rail and I saw sparks fly everywhere.
"I saw one lad on the floor...he got up..not sure if he had been hit or jumped out way.
"Then he was just aiming for people up and down Wigan Road."
No injuries were reported to police and no arrests have yet been made.
