Teenager sent to young offenders' institution following police pursuit in the borough

The 17-year-old was charged with a number of serious driving offences.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said he attended court on Monday and was given an eight-month detention and training order.

Following court proceedings police said the sentence comes only a short time after the teenager was last in youth detention.

Police in Leigh became suspicious about a vehicle on Sunday but when they asked the driver to stop he instead made off at speed.

The officers then pursued the vehicle through Atherton before the car was finally abandoned in Bolton and an arrest was made.

The teenager was charged with driving while disqualified, breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), dangerous driving, failing to stop and driving without insurance.
