Two people arrested after woman stabbed in Wigan

Detectives are questioning two people arrested in connection with the stabbing of a woman in broad daylight.

A 23-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man were arrested after the incident in Tyldesley on Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Elliott Street shortly after 4.10pm to reports a woman had been stabbed.

The 39-year-old woman was taken to hospital with injuries which were not life-threatening and has since been discharged.

A police spokesman said: "A 23-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault.

"A 41-year-old man has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

"Both remain in custody to be questioned by detectives.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

Anyone with information about what happened is asked to call police on 101, quoting incident 1696 of May 13, or independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
