A snatch thief who used her victim’s bank cards to treat herself to tobacco and alcohol has been punished with a conditional discharge by borough justices.

Tammie Hurst appeared in the dock at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court to admit that on December 8 last year she stole a handbag and its contents belonging to Megan Nicholson.

She then admitted that she committed fraud by false representation by carrying out four contactless transactions with a debit card from the bag in order to buy cigarettes and lager.

The 43-year-old of Crabtree Road in Worsley Hall, also pleaded guilty to possessing a quantity of amphetamine two days later.

As well as the two-year conditional discharge imposed by the bench, Hurst was ordered to pay compensation to her victim, court costs and a victim services surcharge totalling £494.
