Wigan borough police step up patrols after spate of burglaries

Police in Wigan borough are stepping up neighbourhood patrols to combat a spree of break-ins.

Neighbourhood officers in Hindley and Hindley Green in reaction to increased reports of domestic burglaries. The force said it would be deviating its officers' shift patterns so that more bobbies were visible at times when most break-ins occur, in addition to boosting the number of covert patrols.

PCSOs will also be in the areas to gather as much CCTV as possible to bring the culprits to justice.

A statement on the GMP Leigh, Atherton and Hindley social media channels said: "Unfortunately over the last month we have seen an slight increase in domestic burglary in the Hindley and Hindley Green area.

"Whilst we do not wish to alarm you! We feel it's important for you, the general public to be made aware and would advise you to be extra vigilant in relation to security measures in the home and your car.

"We know that there is advice from the government to keep your house well ventilated in the wake of the COVID 19 pandemic however leaving windows and leaving doors open whilst you go out for essential journeys make’s your property extremely vulnerable to chance thieves.

"What are we doing about this?

"The neighbourhood team have deviated their shift pattern to line up with crime trends and will be working alongside response teams with a range of overt and covert patrols. The PCSO's will be in the area to try to gather as much CCTV as possible in an attempt to bring these offenders to justice.
