Wigan detectives appeal for information after 'innocent' man was badly hurt after being punched

A man was seriously injured when he was punched in a "completely random assault" and banged his head on the pavement as he fell.

The 21-year-old was with friends on King Street in Leigh at around 10.20pm on Friday, July 31 when he was approached by the man who hit him.

He was taken to hospital with serious head injuries and is now recovering at home.

Police have not yet made any arrests and are now appealing for information as they continue to investigate the attack.

His attacker was described as a white man of medium build with short black hair. He was wearing a grey long-sleeved jumper and black trousers.

Det Con Sarah Lloyd, of Greater Manchester Police's Wigan division, said: "This innocent man was the victim of a completely random assault and as a result has sustained serious injuries.

"We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed this attack to please come forward and share any information with police as soon as possible.

"If you have any mobile phone footage, or were driving past the area at the time and have dash cam footage of the assault, please do not hesitate to contact us as it could prove vital in aiding our investigation."
