Wigan man had 10-hour operation to save hand after stabbing

A Wigan man stabbed outside a McDonald's restaurant almost lost his hand, it has been reported.

Detectives say the 24-year-old suffered "significant" injuries and is recovering in hospital, where his condition has been described as "stable".

The Warrington Guardian has now reported he had a 10-hour operation to save his hand after being attacked with a 14-inch machete.

But sources told the newspaper he may still need to have a partial amputation.

Police launched an investigation after the man was injured outside McDonald's, on Folly Lane, Warrington, shortly before 3.30am on Saturday.

He had been standing outside the restaurant with a group of friends when he was attacked by a man with a knife.

Jordan Hughes, 21, of Calgarth Avenue, Bewsey, Warrington, was arrested on Saturday and has been charged with possession of a knife in a public place and section 18 assault – grievous bodily harm with intent.

He appeared at Warrington Magistrates' Court on Monday and was remanded in custody until a hearing at Liverpool Crown Court next month.
