THOUSANDS of excited Wiganers turned out to see the Olympic Torch pass through the borough.
The official relay entourage crossed the East Lancs Road into Lowton to cheers from the watching Wiganers eager to take in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and lend their support to the torch bearers.
After passing through Lowton it travelled through Golborne, Abram, Platt Bridge, Spring View and Lower Ince before heading into the town centre up Wallgate, where thousands lined the streets.
Olympic fans of all ages waved flags and cheered as TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher jogged into view right on time before handing the torch to scout leader Norman Brown.
After leaving the town centre the torch travelled through Scholes - past the new Scholes monument - then through Higher Ince and Hindley before leaving the borough.
