A WIGAN cyclist has been killed in a crash.

Police today appealed for information about the collision between the pedal bike and a Fiat Punto on Meadow Lane, Croston, near Chorley, early on Tuesday evening.

The victim, who has not yet been formally identified, is said to be a Wigan man in his 50s.

The road was closed for two-and-a-half hours after the 6.50pm incident.

Sgt Patrick Worden said: “We would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the collision who has not yet spoken with police to come forward.

“In particular I am keen to speak to a motorcyclist and his passenger who we believe stopped at the scene to try and assist the cyclist before the ambulance arrived.

“Anybody with any information can call us on 101 quoting log number LC-20120328-1366.”
