Cyclist taken to hospital after collision on busy borough road

A young cyclist was taken to hospital with an arm injury after a collision with a van.

Emergency services were called shortly after 3.15pm on Tuesday to St Helens Road in Pennington, near Chestnut Avenue, after reports of a crash involving a bicycle and the van.

A 14-year-old boy was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment to an arm injury, but he was not thought to be seriously hurt.

St Helens Road was shut between Beech Walk and Bonnywell Road and Transport for Greater Manchester reported bus services were being diverted along Atherleigh Way.

Motorists faced delays in the surrounding area until the road reopened at around 4.30pm.
