Footage of a driver and two cyclists squaring up in a road rage incident at a major Wigan junction has been posted online.
Shocking dashcam film shows a motorist cut across the path of the riders as she turns into Swift Street off the Saddle Junction.
The vehicle then makes its way into the drive-through aisle at the McDonald’s on nearby Gower Street where the cyclists decide to head to vent their fury. The first cyclist is seen on the dashcam riding out of the drive-through before the second rider circles the car, stops to remonstrate angrily and then hits the vehicle twice as he rides off.
The female driver then opens the door of the dark Ford Kuga and unleashes a foul-mouthed tirade of four-letter words in his direction.
It is unclear from the video exactly what the rider said to her. Danny Critchley, from Worsley Mesnes, who has a Youtube channel sharing dashcam footage recorded on local roads, says the confrontation has sparked a much bigger response than many of the other incidents he has seen since posting it a few days ago.
Mr Critchley said: “This video has had more responses than a lot of my other videos. Anything to do with cycling always generates a lot of interest.
“The woman who gets out the car has got a lot of negative comments about her bad language but I was taught you should never touch someone else’s property either so it’s swings and roundabouts.
“I don’t know what she said to the guy but it’s clearly triggered him. He’s wobbling quite a bit and nearly falls onto her car as he rides away.
“This is obviously a heat of the moment confrontation and afterwards people may think they had wished they had acted differently. The daft thing is the cyclist has not damaged her car at all but probably hurt his hand.”
The footage has only just come to light and been posted on the internet even though it happened in June. This is clear from the video as the current roadworks at the Saddle Junction are nowhere to be seen.
