'˜Dirty money' found in drug dealer's car

A DRUG dealer had £4,500 with him when police stopped him for phoning while at the wheel.

A court heard that most of the used notes were in Scottish currency and sentencing Daniel Rendall a judge described it as “dirty money.”

When police later searched a shed behind his Skelmersdale home 26-year-old Rendall was found to have 493g of cannabis bush in a carrier bag with a street value of just under £5,000.

Rendall tried to claim that the drugs were for his own use but Liverpool Crown Court heard that he had now dropped that assertion and he pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis with intent to supply.

Michael Scholes, prosecuting, said that police stopped Rendall driving a Peugeot 206 in Railway Road, Skelmersdale on June 6 last year while he was on his mobile phone.

“He got out and appeared nervous and the officer could smell cannabis in the car.”

Rendall was arrested and handcuffed and when asked what was the car he admitted he had £3,200 on him and a further £1,300 was found in the central console. He claimed the larger sum came from him selling a motorbike and the rest was to pay a plumber. Self-employed contractor Rendall, of Eskdale, pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis with intent.

After hearing that Rendall has been turning his life around Judge Robert Warnock sentenced him to 10 months suspended for two years. He imposed a four-month curfew between 8pm and 5.30am with an electronic tag but agreed this could be from his mum’s home in Skelmersdale to enable him to see his son three times a week as usual.

Claire Jones, defending, said that Rendall has suffered from ADHD all his life and unusually was put on medication for that condition from the age of two. This stopped when he was 16 but he is now back on it. He had used cannabis as “a crutch” but since his arrest has self-referred himself for drug counselling and has not used the drug for six months.
