AN animal lover and regular horse rider has spoken of her horror after finding a dead pony dumped at the side of a Wigan road.
Kesley Lynch-Pallot, 30, was driving to buy feed for her own horse when she noticed the stricken beast near to Golborne Dale Road.
Kesley and friend Kieran Lowe, from Bickershaw, waited at the roadside until the pony was taken away by a knacker man.
They now plan to start an online petition asking for stricter checks for people wanting to dispose of dead horses.
Kesley told the Evening Post: “I’m in complete shock and sickened that we have found this pony in this condition.
“No-one was interested in finding how it died or who the owner is.
“Something needs to be done – that pony is going to be incinerated without anyone being brought to justice. It had just been dumped there.”
The pony had dried blood around its nose, on its rear and had maggots in its mouth.
Kesley speculated that the animal could have been injured during mating and had not died of natural causes.
She added: “I doubt it died of natural causes seeing the state it was in. We called the RSPCA and the police but there wasn’t much they could do. We waited with the pony’s body until it was taken away.”
Greater Manchester Police said officers had attended the scene at 3pm on Friday, anyone with information can report it to Wigan police on 101 or the RSPCA cruelty line on 0300 1234 999.
