A DISPERSAL order has been put in place by police for the Orrell area for the second weekend in a row.

The order, which covers routes to Orrell Water Park on Lodge Road, Winstanley Road, Church Street, Church Drive and Sefton Road, starts tonight at 5pm and will be in place until 3am on Sunday.

A similar order was put in place last weekend following a spate of anti-social behaviour in the area.

Another order has been issued covering the Park Road area of Gidlow Lane in Beech Hill which also starts at 5pm tonight and will be in place until 5pm on Sunday.

It means that a police officer or a PCSO may give order any person in a public place to leave the locality and not to return for the period specified.

There must be reasonable grounds to suspect that the behaviour of the individual has contributed or is likely to contribute to members of the public in the locality being harassed, alarmed or distressed, or the occurrence in the locality of crime or disorder.

There must also be grounds to suspect that giving a direction to a person is necessary for the purpose or removing or reducing the likelihood of the above.

The person given the direction can be required to hand over items causing or likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to members of the public. This could be any item, but could include alcohol, fireworks, spray paint or a music player.

A post of Wigan West GMP’s Facebook page reads: “It is an offence for the person not to hand over the item if asked to do so. It is also an offence to fail to adhere to a direction to leave.

“Please call us if you see any Anti-social behaviour in this area using 101. In an emergency always use 999.

“We are working within partnership with Wigan Council. Any youths found in the locality of the map will be taken and passed to Wigan Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Team and enforcement action will be taken if deemed necessary.”
