THE deadline is nearing for parents of children in their final year of primary school to apply for a secondary school place.
Families have until Friday October 31 to make their list of preferred choices and submit them.
Parents will have received information about how to apply if their child is in Year 6 and due to move to Year 7 in secondary school next September.
Applications are made online via Wigan Council’s website.
Coun Joanne Platt, Wigan Council’s cabinet member for Children and Young People’s Services, said: “It may be early in the new school year but it is crucial that parents apply now for their child’s secondary school place next year.
“If parents miss the deadline on October 31 their child is less likely to get a place in their preferred school.
“The online application system is easy to use and the quickest way of filling in the form.”
In last year’s round, 95 per cent of on-time applicants were offered a place at the school named first on their perference list and 99 per cent of punctual applicants were offered a place at one of the schools.
Parents are advised to give three preferences rather than just one.
