HAYDOCK-born BBC Look North West presenter Mark Edwardson has joined up with a few of his old school chums from Ashton’s St Edmund Arrowsmith RC High to launch the first-ever social event of the new Alumni Society on Saturday June 28.

All former pupils are invited for a boogie and a barbecue under the stars, to catch up with old friends and reminisce about their favourite (or not so favourite!) teachers.

Leeds-based band The Reeds will play rock and pop music to match the past decades. Between their sets, the hoppin’ and boppin’ will continue courtesy of DJ Mark Webster, who is also an ICT teacher at the school.

Mr Edwardson said: “We are delighted that pupils and staff are getting together on June 28 to celebrate their time at what truly is a fantastic school. It gave me, and thousands of other pupils in the area, a great springboard for future life.”

Past pupils have also been hooking up on a special Facebook page to whet their appetite for the summer barbecue. The school website also has a dedicated alumni page where folk can read all the latest news.

Headteacher Mark Dumican said: “We are delighted that past pupils such as Mark and others have decided to form the St Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic High School Alumni Association for our school. Apart from social events we hope it will also provide a wide-ranging support network for former students.”

Tickets cost £5 and are available on 01942 402634, or
