Wigan College new building nears completion

WORK on Wigan and Leigh College’s £5.5m Gateway Entrance is entering the final stages with completion now just weeks away.

The project to overhaul the college’s main Parson’s Walk campus should be finished by January 2015 and will provide a new state-of-the-art entrance and reception.

The new building, which is taking shape thanks to the expertise of Aspect Construction, will also include new facilities for student services and employment services on the ground floor.

The college’s learning resources centre will be on the first floor, with the provider promising world-class equipment enabling students to get the most out of their courses.

The IC Hair Salon will also be in the new building, offering students the chance to work in a realistic environment and serve members of the public while they are learning.

College students doing the extended diploma in civil engineering and construction have also got involved in the building work with days of hands-on experience with Aspect.

The Gateway Entrance is phase two of Wigan and Leigh College’s £12.3m of investment, which also includes the building of the Professional Studies Centre at the town centre campus and a £1.4m improvement to the facilities at the Pagefield campus on Walkden Avenue.
