AN Italian pupil at Up Holland High School has amazed staff by becoming fluent in English less than a year after joining the school from her native home.
Zoe Boing, 11, excelled in her studies despite only being able to say ‘hello’ and goodbye’ in English when she arrived 12 months ago.
Now she is fluent and teachers put her amazing learning ability down to music videos - which she watched on YouTube.
Dave Merino, head of languages at Up Holland High said: “Zoe has a unique gift for languages.
“We were amazed how good her English was and found it fascinating the way which she taught herself.
“She listens to music videos every day and repeats the songs over and over.
“In particular the Kaiser Chiefs and The Jam.”
