AN ELDERLY man was left in fear after he woke to thieves ransacking precious valuables in his Wigan home.

At around 2.45am on Friday September 4, two men broke into the house on Southfield, Platt Bridge, and searched rooms, stealing a gold Rolex.

They walked upstairs where the 71-year-old victim was sleeping and he was awoken by the men searching his room.

The men stole the Rolex watch before walking out and it is believed they drove off in a dark coloured Vauxhall Vectra.

The men wore dark clothing and had their faces covered.

Detective Constable Lynsey Watson said: “The man was so frightened the offenders would come back for something else, he climbed out of his window and shouted for help.

“He has understandably been left shaken and is upset his watch, which he has had for over 20 years, has been taken.

“I would ask anyone who may have either witnessed the men break in, leave the house or drive off in the car, to contact police as soon as possible.”
