Work has begun in earnest to rid a town centre car park of its reputation as the borough’s worst.
Plant machinery has moved onto the Euro Car Parks-run site where the old Wigan town hall once stood to start filling in the large pot holes that have for years been the bane of motorists’ lives and give the area a smooth new surface.
Drivers had contacted the Wigan Post complaining that vehicles had been damaged or stranded after thumping into the craters, especially when they were filled with rainwater so they hadn’t realised how deep they were.
The land is owned by foreign investors and is on a Wigan Council brownfield register as suitable for commercial redevelopment. It has been the subject of several planning applications but none has so far come to fruition.
