Taking place in the new outdoor event area at Haigh Woodland Park, the free event will feature Pemberton Old Brass Band, who will be recreating the musical spirit of the bygone era, alongside vintage stalls and vehicles, punch and Judy, magic shows and a ukulele performance by Anthony Mason, who will also be the compere for the proceedings.

There will be prizes for best men’s, women’s and children’s forties outfits and fantastic raffle prizes donated by the tenants of the kitchen courtyard and Contessa Hotels who are behind the restoration of Haigh Hall.

Dave Hanbury, Chair of the friends group, said: “Forties events are now very popular around the country and we wanted to tap into that popularity for our first event in the newly created area in the park. We hope that as many people as possible will get into the spirit of the event and don Forties glad rags on the day.”

Councillor Chris Ready, Wigan Council’s Cabinet member for communities, said: “The Friends of Haigh Country Park are doing a wonderful job in engaging the community in park activities and we are delighted to be supporting this weekend’s event through The Deal for Communities Investment Fund. We wish the friends every success with what we hope will be the first of many events.”
