Family in fear over cancer treatment

Following a course of chemotherapy, the six-year-old, who is battling the illness for the second time, complained of pains on his arms and doctors now fear the therapy is not having the desired effect.

The Ince boy was given hope when scans revealed his tumour was shrinking back in January, but he now faces more scans on May 5 to confirm if it is still being held in check

Mum Stef posted on Facebook: “We’re not sure if he’s got a bug or not. He’s lost a lot of weight and isn’t eating. We saw someone at the hospital and he thinks the chemotherapy isn’t working anymore and has prescribed him more morphine.

“We are sick of all this - why does it have be us that go through this? We have decided no more chemo after this lot. He’s writing a letter to the Christie Hospital so we can try MIBG therapy, which is our last resort.

“It is just heart-breaking.”

But Stef added that, despite his illness, Braiden is doing well at Ince Primary School. She said: “His teacher couldn’t stop praising him during parents’ evening. He’s come on in leaps and bounds and although he’s not at the same level children his age are, he’s trying his very best at school with his work. We are very proud of what he’s achieving. He is my superhero.”

Braiden was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 2012 and following a mammoth fund-raising drive, was flown out to the US for specialist proton beam treatment. Sadly this failed but following aggressive chemo at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, he was given the all-clear in September 2013.
