THE family of a young man who died in a road smash at the weekend has paid moving tributes to him.

Tragedy struck at around 12.45am on Back Lane in Appley Bridge on Sunday when Steven James’s Honda coupe was in collision with a stationary private hire minibus which was parked at the roadside as passengers were being dropped off.

Steven, who was 25 and from Leigh, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one else was injured during the collision, but the driver of the minibus was treated for shock.

In a statement issued through the police, Steven’s family said: “Our beloved son Steven was taken from us in a horrific car accident at just 25 years old.

“Unless you were there yourself, you cannot even come close to imagining the hurt that we are going through.

“If you knew him, you would know how intelligent and funny he was. If you didn’t know him, you would have clicked with him instantly when you met him – he was gregarious and could talk to anyone about anything.

“He threw himself into anything he set his mind to. He was an accomplished web designer and a genius with electronics. His brain was always running at 110 per cent, with ideas way ahead of the time.”
