His parents, Pam and Neil Appleton, this week have posted an emotional tribute to their son and a message thanking Jordan’s friends and wellwishers for their unwavering support.

A message written on Jordan’s Facebook page, said: “We didn’t want to do this via social media but if there is one thing that the last few days have shown us, it’s how much Jordan was loved and is missed.

“Please know that the memories and photos you have been sharing bring us great comfort. The support from you all is heartwarming and very much appreciated.

“We are a very close loving family and he shared everything with me both good and bad.

“Sunday was a special day for us as he was back home where he belonged, he’d bought tools, been fishing, asked me to sew his work pants, was making plans with us and with friends, but most importantly he was looking to the future.

“We’d had a conversation for hours which although initially he’d been upset, he was then fine. Before going to bed he was laughing and joking with me and his dad. There was absolutely no indication of what he would do and he set his alarm for work the next day.

“Certain things are now coming to light which are confirming what we had already thought, but we have an inquest to come so all information will be dealt with correctly.

“Our beautiful funny boy was taken from us far too soon. Always the prankster, he lit up our lives and brought us great joy. He was the best big brother to Maison and Cassidie and was fiercely loyal and protective.

“We are filled with pride for everything he achieved in his short life but the heartache and loss without him here is indescribable.

“Our unending gratitude to you all, you have no idea how much it’s appreciated. Goodnight Jordan, your friends and family are broken and lost without you - our world will never be the same again, we love you.”

A fund-raiser launched by one of Jordan’s close friends, Elliot McCallum received more than £3,000 in just six days.

Mr McCallum said: “Jordan meant so much to everyone so the least we can do is be there for his family in their time of need.”
