Fans party in the park with League One winning Wigan Athletic

Wigan Athletic fans celebrated the team's Leageu One winning promotion success in style with a huge party in Mesnes Park.

Supporters rubbed shoulders with players and staff, marking the end of a record-breaking season which saw Paul Cook’s side win League One and earn promotion to the Championship.

Latics had secured an immediate return to the second tier with a 4-0 victory over Fleetwood with three games to spare, and the squad had been permitted to let their hair down following the win.

The iciing on the cake came yesterday (Saturday) when they clinched the title with a 1-0 win at Doncaster.

They were out in force to celebrate yet again at Mesnes Park yesterday, this time aaccompanied by scores of devoted fans.

The four-hour event featured a big screen at the bandstand, on which some of the season highlights were played as well as some of the most popular videos of the season.

The Player of the Year Awards were also announced on the afternoon.

Fans also had the chance to take pictures with their favourite players, and took part in a mass picture made of supporters, players and coaches.

Paul Cook and Chairman David Sharpe also took part in a Q&A session, fielding questions from Latics fans and reflecting on the highs of the season.

A mix of worldwide food and drink was also enjoyed by attendees thanks to the club’s partnership with Haigh Foodie Friday.

Handmade pizzas, tapas, BBQ and even a prosseco and gin bar were all on hand to help celebrate and see out the season in style.
