A FIRE at a derelict school is being treated as arson.

A crew from Atherton were called to the school on Upper George Street, Tyldesley, at around 4.50pm today, Sunday, after furniture on the ground floor was set on fire.

The fire caused damage to the floor and the building was heavily smoke damaged.

The crew used breathing apparatus to enter the building, hose reels to extinguish the blaze and a fan to clear the smoke.
