FIRE stations across Wigan borough paid tribute to a Manchester colleague who was killed on duty this week.
Stephen Hunt was part of a team responding to a fire at Paul’s Hair World in Manchester when he and a colleague got into difficulties at the weekend.
Sadly, the 38-year-old died as a result of his injuries.
A number of firefighters from Wigan attended the scene too, including borough commander Steve Sheridan.
He said: “It’s a very tough and upsetting incident for all members of staff. It’s a very dangerous job.
“It brings back home the immense dedication that firefighters have 24 hours a day.
“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Wigan go out to Stephen’s family, friends and colleagues.”
