ARSONISTS deliberately set a car alight in a garage in Wigan.

Crews were called to a row of domestic garages in Chadwick Street, in Poolstock, at 1.10am on Sunday after a blaze completely destroyed a Peugeot.

The fire had spread to the adjoining garage, but no other vehicles were affected.

Crew commander Simon Connor, of Wigan Fire Service, said: “We had to force entry to the garage and when we opened the door we found the car was well alight.

“Smoke and flames were threatening the garages either side.

“We used breathing apparatus and a hose reel to extinguish the flames.

“Unfortunately we had to force entry to the other garages to check if it has spread.

“The fire was deliberate.

“Luckily it was quite a way from the houses. We were unable to trace the owner at the time.”
