Firefighters called as 20 tonnes of building waste is set alight at former Wigan pub
Firefighters are reminding people to recycle their waste properly, rather than burning it, after being called to an incident in Wigan.
Crews from Wigan fire station went to the former Famous Pagefield pub, on Gidlow Lane, Springfield, at 1pm on Wednesday after reports of smoke affecting the local area.
They found 20 tonnes of building waste from renovation work was being burned at the rear of the building.
Firefighters spent an hour putting out the blaze and ensuring it did not spread.
A spokesman encouraged people to use proper recycling methods to dispose of waste, rather than burning it.
