FIREFIGHTERS have finally left the scene at Wharfside apartments following the large blaze four days ago.
Crews pulled away on Wednesday as they put out the last pockets of fire, made easier by the fact the top two floors had been removed.
Security of the building, off Heritage Way, Wigan, is now in the hands of the police as some residents may wish to enter the least affected areas to collect belongings.
And offers of help are still flooding in to provide necessary items to those who have lost all their things in the fire. Almost 200 residents are thought to be affected. Supermarkets, including Aldi, in Newtown, Tesco, in Poolstock, Poundstretcher, in Robin Park, and Home Bargains, in Newtown, have donated items.
Wigan Warriors has offered free tickets to its game against Salford on Friday and The Bedroom Shop, in Orrell, is offering furniture at discounted prices.
A note on ALRA’s door, in Heritage Way, states it is no longer collecting clothes, but still wants food and toiletries.
