A crew from Hindley were called to the car park of the Spar shop on Borsdane Avenue, Hindley, at around 2pm today, Thursday, after a woman accidentally locked her keys in the car with her young daughter.

The firefighters used the coat hanger to form a hook and were able to retrieve the keys and unlock the car.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “We used the wire coat hanger to gain access to the car through the door.

“We’d made a hook on it so we were able to pick the keys up and bring them up to the gap we had made in the door and press the button to unlock the car.

“The baby was very young but she seemed comfortable. We didn’t want to break the window but if she had been trapped in their a minute longer we would have smashed it.”

It took the firefighters several minutes to unlock the car and free the baby but she was uninjured and reunited with her mum.
