THESE dramatic scenes show firefighters dealing with a car left to burn at the roadside.
The crew from Wigan fire station was called to the silver Ford Focus estate in a lay-by on Crow Orchard Road in Shevington Moor at around noon on Sunday.
They found the vehicle well alight and crews wearing breathing apparatus put out the flames.
Despite their best efforts the car was totally destroyed, with the blaze sending a huge plume of smoke into the sky.
The crews believe the fire developed from an engine fault and there was no suggestion of deliberate ignition.
The driver left the vehicle ablaze in the lay-by and could not be located by the emergency services.
Traffic had to be diverted around the burnt-out vehicle by the firefighters, who spent around 40 minutes at the scene.
