Firm pays tribute to Wigan with charity calendar

Staff at a Wigan accountancy firm decided to do a charity calendar - but one with a difference.

Instead of the much-copied ‘Calendar Girls’ type production they came up with the idea of making it a homage to their home town.

And the finished product created by members of the HullJady Chartered Accountants team will make a delightful stocking filler for anyone who loves Wigan - and raise funds for The Brick charity.

Clare Jady, Fellow Chartered Accountant at HullJady, said: “ We’ve admired the work that The Brick does - particularly the Queen’s Hall Action on Poverty - to help individuals and families facing all sort of crises including homelessness, poverty and debt.

“At a time when there’s less and less government support available, we’re fortunate in Wigan that charities like the Brick exist.

“We thought we’d like to try to raise some money but most of us can’t run marathons or even a 10k so we tried to think of something different.”

Clare added: “We rejected the idea of a Calendar Girls style calendar as it’s too cold!

“However, most of the team are from Wigan and feel a real affection for the town, so we started to think about all the things that are lovely and unexpected about it.

“The council have a great campaign to encourage people to come to Wigan.

“It’s got great transport links and loads of green spaces.

“We used some of those themes, but in a slightly different way.”

Some of the images that will be featured in the calendar include a trumpet player from this year’s Wigan International Jazz Festival, Heinz beans, and, of course, a pie!

Hannah Bolton contributed to the calendar with a picture of her 11-month-old toddler Noah eating beans, which are of course canned at the Heinz plant in Kitt Green.
