A FORMER Wigan Athletic player has gone missing.
German police are searching for Ivory Coast international Steve Gohouri who vanished after claiming he was heading to Paris to see his family.
His family travelled from France to Germany to report his disappearance to file a missing person’s report in Dusseldorf.
The 34-year-old defender, who had spells at Wigan Athletic as well as Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Moechengladbach during his career, currently plays for TSV Steinbach in the German fourth division.
He attended his current club’s Christmas party last Friday before telling teammates he was going to see family in Paris, but never arrived in the French capital.
Steinbach, whom he only joined at the start of December, said they are shocked by his disappearance.
Steinbach coach Thomas Brdaric told local paper RevierSport: “We are all speechless. Steve and I said goodbye to each other last Friday.
“He told me that he was going to travel to his family in Paris, but it’s become clear that he never arrived.
“In about two weeks, you get to know someone a little.
“They were very intense weeks for us, from a sporting point of view.
“There is speculation, and I hope that it’s not true, that he had personal problems and has abandoned his responsibilities.
“He shouldn’t do that to his family or his employer.
“We all hope that Steve will shed some light on this as quickly as possible.”
