Mervyn Craig has not been seen for more than three weeks now and his loved ones are becoming increasingly concerned about his welfare.

The 46-year-old from Lisburn had come to England on January 28 to meet up with a woman he had got to know on the internet although he had told relatives, including his wife Donna, that he was coming to Wigan to do construction work.

She spoke out for the first time this week, saying she just wanted her husband home.

According to Mr Craig’s eldest daughter Samantha, who confronted her father’s internet friend, the pair went their separate ways on Monday February 8 - the last time he was spotted. That was looking at cars at the Arnold Clark garage at around 8pm. Police and loved ones are particularly worried for his safety because he is a diabetic and insulin-dependent, and is not thought to have any medication with him.

Mrs Craig revealed in an interview with an Irish newspaper that she had been injured in a road smash the day before her husband lef tfor Wigan.

But while she is still recovering from her injuries, she says that her only concerns now are for her husband’s safety.

She said: “I’m just trying to get on with things, hoping that it all turns out for the best and that Mervyn turns up safe and well. I want to know that he’s safe and well and we all want him to come home. His family and his grandchildren miss him.

“This weekend, some of Mervyn’s close friends are going over to Wigan to look for him.”

Anyone with information is asked to ring police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
