Stuart and Liz Tagg, from Ashton, held the charity night for the Sepsis Trust at Stubshaw Cross Labour Club the night before what would have been their son Thomas’s fourth birthday.

The night, which featured auctions with a host of football and rugby items going under the hammer, a raffle and live music from The Covertones, brought in the incredible total of £5,420.

More than 300 people attended to help Thomas’s legacy by supporting the charity’s work raising awareness of sepsis, which is responsible for around 44,000 deaths out of 150,000 cases in the UK each year.

Thomas was just two when he developed the disease and died after his condition deteriorated rapidly and his parents spoke of their gratitude towards those who continue to support their fight to make the symptoms better known.

Dad Stuart, 38, said: “It means a lot to us and shows what Thomas meant to people. They’ve not forgotten him two years on.

“The money will make a huge difference to the Sepsis Trust’s work training people and raising awareness. Hopefully we can honour Thomas by helping somebody else.”
