THE funeral date for Ibiza tragedy victim Luke Rhoden has been set for next Thursday, October 2.
It will take place at St John’s Church in Pemberton at noon and his family want the event to be a celebration of his life.
Over the past few weeks, friends have been gathering memories from people and video footage of Luke for the funeral.
It will be held a month to the day after the former Wigan Warriors academy player died on the Spanish island after suffering a cardiac arrest on September 2.
His body was flown home a week ago after a mammoth fund-raising effort from people in Wigan to pay for his repatriation.
Within weeks of Luke’s death more than £10,000 was generated with further money going towards the cost of the funeral and possible legal costs.
The 25-year-old’s father, Norman, is pursuing allegations that his son was beaten by Spanish police before his death and believes asphyxiation caused during a struggle with officers caused his death.
A fortnight ago Mr Rhoden travelled to Ibiza and was told by the doctor who attended to Luke that officers were told three times to release him before they finally let him go. Spanish police have since accused the doctor of malpractice.
