Funeral for man whose death sparked murder probe

THE funeral of a Wigan man whose body was found in a bin will take place next week.

A requiem mass service for 26-year-oldd Steven Rourke will be held at St Patrick’s RC Church in Scholes at noon next Tuesday. A committal will take place afterwards at Wigan Crematorium.

Mr Rourke, who was also known by the surname Lynch, was discovered in a wheelie bin on open land off close to his home in Bickershaw Lane on Sunday, March 25.

A post-mortem examination indicated that Mr Rourke had been strangled.

James Anthony Jepson, 24, has since been charged with murdering Mr Rourke.

Jepson, also know as Kelly, of Bickershaw Lane, appeared via video link from Liverpool prison, before the Recorder of Liverpool, Judge Clement Goldstone, QC, earlier this month.

He was further remanded in custody until July 20, when he is expected to enter his plea.

A date for his trial, expected to last eight days, was provisionally fixed to begin on September 3
